Mock-up of Bazalgette Statue at the Monument

During a recent excursion to the NMA, our team brought along the mocked-up  of the statue and set it up next to the monument as a close approximation to its final resting spot.

Bazalgette Exhibition at Canadian High Commission

On 12 November, the Canadian High Commission at Canada House in London set up a public exhibition on the life of Ian Willoughby Bazalgette. The exhibition includes some important memorabilia (Victoria Cross medal replica) and memoirs amongst other fascinating details of his service. Given the recent Bomber Command Memorials being unveiled in London and Canada there is a drive to formally remember those who fought in Bomber Command and this exhibition is a further reminder of their great sacrifice. Here are some photos of the opening ceremony attended by the sculptor of the statue that we have commissioned.

Sculpture Update

The statue as it is taking formThe front profile of the statue, note the details on the face

These are the latest photos of the sculpture as it is taking form. Our artist, Sara Ingleby-MacKenzie, is taking the time to perfect the details. Apparently our subject had a very plastic face which made him look different in every photograph which makes it difficult for our artist to accurate capture his contenance.

The Appeal

This project is being run by volunteers (who all work for free, using their own time, evenings and weekends) and a memorial can only be built with the generous donations of those interested in supporting this worthwhile cause. Any amount will help the plan to become a reality. The NMA site was acquired on a 999 year lease and your donation will help to create a fitting and very long lasting memorial on this site. If you feel that you can help us with this endeavour, please click on Making a Donation. Contributors will be shown on this website unless you wish your donation to be anonymous. If you wish to donate in the memory of a family member, loved one or friend, please let us know when you donate and we will show those details as well.
